2008 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer

Who Needs a Pink Ribbon When You Can Have a Human Ribbon?

A Wonderful Diversion
At mile 7.5 the second day of the walk (we had walked 33.7 miles by this point), my brother-in-law and Anna, my 4-year-old niece, walked with us for about a mile.

Anna was thrilled to see us, wanted to be carried, wanted us to hold her hands, etc. Even though having a 35 pound child hanging on you when you are nearing total exhaustion is not easy, Anna brightened our entire day.

Four-year-old little legs don’t provide Anna with a great deal of endurance, but when she saw the people cheering and handing out candy, there was no way she was going to get back into her stroller until she absolutely could not walk one more step.

The Top of the Pyramid
Hopefully via research and prevention, today's little girls will not need to worry about breast cancer, or any form of cancer, when they become women.
